Doctor, princess, fireman, and president are just a few of the dream job some children may have had. But for Wendy Lawrence hers was different. Lawrence dreamed of going to a place so many never have before. She wanted to travel to outer space, her dream job was to be an astronaut!
After attending MIT in 1986, Lawrence accepted a job with NASA. Finally, her dreams were coming true. Lawrence says, she couldn’t have got to where she is today without the help of her friends, “Surround yourself with true friends” Lawrence stated during her speech.
On Wednesday, Feb.19, 2018 Wendy Lawrence, an astronaut for NASA, held a forum at Ball State. The forum was open to all ages. During her program, she expressed her tips and tricks to becoming successful.
Ball State student Kayla Wright says, “It was really inspiring, hearing her story. It made me want to go out and really chase my own dreams”.
Once the forum concluded Lawrence opened the floor for questions. A young boy walked up to the microphone and said, “I heard astronauts really like duct tape!” The crowed lost it, they loved it, the little boy giggled as explained that he had read somewhere that astronauts really love duct tape!
Everyone was sincerely happy and seemed to have enjoyed themselves as the audience exited Emens auditorium. You could see passion and ambition in their eyes, to go out and chase their dreams just as Lawrence had told them she did.
