I am proud to call myself a dog mom. My dog child Coco, is a 13-year-old, chocolate brown, chihuahua. Coco enjoys cuddling, going for short walks, playing dress up, and sharing my food.
Coco is a rescue from P.A.W.S. in Tinley Park, IL. As many of you may have heard the phrase, "who rescued who?" I believe that is a very true statement. Many dogs become more than just our pets, but our family, our best friends, and ride or die. That is why I consider myself to be a dog mom. While I may only be 20-years-young, I have taken on the responsibilities of taking care of a life. It is my job to make sure Coco is cared for; being feed, clothed, loved, and appreciated.
As my mom (Mama Brooks) always says a dog is the one thing that will never let you down. Everyday when my mom returned home from work while I was growing up, she would be greater by a spunky little guy by the name of Neko, who is now referred to as my brother... another story for another day. But regardless the amount of love Neko showed my mom day after day, was priceless. I joke that when Neko passes away Ill have to move home to console my mom, but its really not a joke. When you think of your beloved 4 legged family members you think the world of them. I know that Coco is my world and I'd be crushed if anything every happened to her.
Trough it all Coco has always been there for me. When I was a senior in High School, I participated in a pageant, The Rose Queen Pageant. Like many pageants, it is required to have a "talent" while for anyone who may know me they would know, I can't sing or dance for the life of me. I have absolutely no rhythm and must be tone def. So for my talent I choose to share something I genuinely believed was a talent. Dog training! When coco came to live with me she was already about 7-years-old, while I can not take all the credit as Coco is very bright, I will say with a little bit of practice, you can teach and old dog new tricks. She knew the basics; sit, stay, paw, and high-five, but I had to jazz it up a bit so we practiced jumping through a hula hoop, weaving in and out of cones, and climbing up on to my feet while I raised her above my head.
No, I did not win, but I had already won the day I became Coco's mama. Please always remember to adopt, not shop, because you may just be saving a life.
